I always use a chrome silicon spring. They always seem to be a little quieter and last a lot longer. This one is a little different than most; neither end will grip the buffer. It doesn't seem to matter. I don't know, but this might be why this one is quieter than any other chrome silicon spring that i have. Generally, a chrome silicon spring is quieter than a stainless steel spring. But this one doesn't even sound like a spring at all, I hear nothing. Well worth the money.

If you're reading reviews for this buffer spring, you're probably wondering if a lower priced spring is any good. I would certainly recommend this one. It's as nice as any other carbine buffer spring and works just fine. Highly recommended as a backup spring or as a spring for any new build.
