The AR-15 Buffer Retainer secures the bolt in place and helps prevent any bolt movement while the bolt is being removed. This retainer slips onto the bolt carrier and helps prevent the bolt from coming off while the bolt is being removed. All that is required is the insertion of the set screw. Since the bolt must leave the bottom of the bolt housing, the bolt retainer must be inserted from the rear in order to engage the bolt hold open. After engaging the bolt hold open, rotate the handle to make sure the buffer is properly seated into the bolt hold open. Arrived quickly, I installed in an ongoing build. Fit perfectly and held in buffer and spring as expected. It is hard to write 200 words about a buffer retainer so my only other words would be if you need spare buffer retainers order them from Optics Planet and the Luth-AR brand can't be beat for the price.

Unknown on how I am to successfully review this due to its shear inability to be bad. Pretty hard to mess up this part unless you were to make it out of lead. Does it weigh more than a titanium version, sure. Does it add enough weight to consider shelling out $12 for a lighter version, not really. Works as it should and will last long enough to loose it like everyone does, buy a few to have laying around for the day your disassembling and you hear something rocket across the room. You will thank me.

Good quality product nice to have these around just in case. Best price I could find on them it’s nice to find parts like these for spares when you’re not trying to buy an entire LPK. Reviews must be 200 characters not sure exactly how to make a review about these springs 200 characters if you’re actually reading this I am sorry

This part is the same as all the rest of these things, IF you've seen ONE you've seen them ALL. The problem is this mil spec part is one of it's original design because it breaks too easily. The action/buffer impact sheers the tip off occasionally/eventually, so some people simply don't use them since they aren't essential. Other companies Like Heckler Koch have beefed up this pin to ameliorate the sheering problem, however this invites it's own set of problems because if you beef it up it's more likely to be struck by the buffer or to not be straddled by the bolt carrier and possibly cause the weapon to bind. The best solution to this problem is to use a captive buffer system like JP which unfortunately is very overpriced. A good solution to this problem is yet to come along. This part serves only to keep the buffer from lying out when it is taken down. During the weapon's typical operation this part serves no role other than to create possible problems. I gave it three stars because it is a horrible part that is worse than useless. You're better off to throw it away. However this is not Luth-AR's fault they are just providing the mil spec part which is as good, or as bad as the rest of them. Luth-AR seems a respectable company with good prices and it's no fault of theirs that this part sucks. This part CAN ONLY CAUSE PROBLEMS. That is a fact, it's not my opinion. THIS PART'S ONLY ROLE IN FUNCTION OF THE RIFLE IS CREATING A LIABILITY. The only thing it does is keep the buffer and spring from coming out when the rifle is taken down, and I'm not sure how or why that is important. Do yourself a favor and don't use this part. Just take down the rifle carefully at first so the buffer and spring do not fly out
