Specifically developed on the request of the USMC, the A5 buffer system is considered to be the most innovative upgrade for the AR platform, increasing the reliability, accuracy, and performance of AR pattern weapons. For the operator that requires a specially weighted buffer, or wants to fine tune their weapon, the VLTOR A5 buffers come in five unique weights. A5 buffers are only compatible with other VLTOR A5 buffer system components. The buffers themselves are longer than traditional carbine buffers, and they cannot be used in standard carbine receiver extensions. This exactly what I was looking for. The fit and finish were exactly what I expected for a Vltor product. I'm using it in a Vltor A5 7 position mil-spec buffer tube with a Wolff extra power rifle length spring for a 7.62×39 build.

Great buffer, works like it should. The A5 system works great with a mid length gas system.Although there isn’t much recoil to an ar,this takes like all of it out. Great price and service from Optics Planet!

Purchased this for a carbine length gas system in 7.62×39 A5 setup. Vltor makes quality products, and this is no exception. For me, the A5 system provides the flexibility of the carbine buffer system while also providing the shooting characteristics and reliability of the A2/Rifle buffer system. The primary drawback is the price of admission. 1 star subtracted for cost. For what they are, all buffers are overpriced.

Love the VLTOR A5 system! This is my 3rd build using it. I won’t use anything else going forward, unless VLTOR ends up coming out with something that improves upon their own product. The H1 or H2 buffers should cover most peoples’ needs, suppressed or otherwise.

Good quality stuff, the way to go is the a5h2 for mid length or carbine length gas systems or h1 or lower for intermediate or rifle length systems. I haven’t Tun suppressed but you’ll probably need to either up a weight or leave it. Generally if you’re ejecting 3-3:30 o’clock you should be good since the system is designed to allow for more forgiving spring mass damper settings than conventional systems. Run a sprinco green buffer spring as well.

I am currently building a 308 with a vltor A5 system. I didn’t realize that I needed a carbine buffer when I purchased this but I spoke with vltor and they gave me some real good advice on my build so I decided to to keep it and start a new build with this. It seems well made and the staff at vltor are super cool. No hands on experience yet.
